How to Connect Hevy to ChatGPT: Setup, Limits and Fixes

To connect Hevy to ChatGPT, install Hevy for ChatGPT from ChatGPT's Plugins, sign in with your Hevy account, and start a message with @hevy. It is free on both sides. Hevy launched it in September 2026 to replace HevyGPT, so if you set up the old GPT, these steps are different from the ones you followed before.

We wrote this guide because people ask how Hevy's integration works, and because its two limits are the reason some lifters end up using ours: it works with ChatGPT only, and a free Hevy account holds four routines. How to connect Hevy to ChatGPT on desktop

1. Open ChatGPT in a browser and sign in.
2. Go to Plugins and search for Hevy. Hevy's page also links straight to the listing.
3. Choose Install plugin.
4. Choose Sign in with Hevy and sign in to your Hevy account.
5. Authorize access to your Hevy data.

That is the whole setup. Every step Hevy lists happens in ChatGPT.

How to connect Hevy to ChatGPT on your phone

1. Open the ChatGPT app, go to Plugins, and search for Hevy.
2. Tap Install plugin.
3. Select Continue to Hevy, then Allow Access.
4. Tap Try in chat.

Hevy gives one set of phone steps and does not separate iPhone from Android. It does say that the old HevyGPT was not available in the Android version of ChatGPT, and it names that as one of the reasons it built the new app.

How to use Hevy inside ChatGPT

Start your message with @hevy. The tag is what tells ChatGPT to use the Hevy app instead of answering from general knowledge. Hevy describes three ways to get there: tag it in a new chat, keep one pinned conversation for everything Hevy-related, or open Plugins, select Hevy and choose Try in chat.

The more detail you give, the more tailored the plan. Hevy's own list of things worth including covers injuries, exercises you like or avoid, available equipment, goals, session length, weekly frequency and warm-up sets.

What it can and cannot see

It can read your workout history and it can save plans into your account. It cannot read body weight or measurements yet. Hevy's FAQ answers that question by saying it is looking at ways to expand the integration in future updates.

It also works with one assistant. Hevy's page does not mention Claude or Gemini, and there is no equivalent app for either. Trunk, the tracker we make, takes the other approach: one link that any assistant can open. How that works is below.

If the Hevy ChatGPT integration is not working

These are the causes Hevy's own pages support. The list is short on purpose.

• You are opening the old HevyGPT chat. Hevy is sunsetting it and has moved to the new app. Hevy also says the old GPT format limited what it could fix. Install Hevy for ChatGPT using the steps above.
• ChatGPT answers without your data. Check that the message starts with @hevy. Without the tag you are talking to ChatGPT on its own.
• You are on a free Hevy account and the plan has more than four workouts. Free Hevy holds four routines. Hevy's page does not say what the app does with a fifth, so check how many routines you already have before asking for a large plan. The cap goes away with Hevy Pro, or with a tracker that has no routine cap, which is how we built Trunk.
• You were using HevyGPT in the Android ChatGPT app. Hevy says the old GPT was not available there. Switch to the new app.
• You want to start clean. Uninstall and reinstall: in ChatGPT, open Plugins, tap the gear icon, then the three dots, then Uninstall.

What it costs

USD. Hevy plans and caps from Hevy's pricing page, integration terms from Hevy's Hevy for ChatGPT page, ChatGPT Free from OpenAI's pricing page, all verified 2026-10-03. Prices and caps change.

For most people this is free. The cost shows up when an assistant designs a five-day or six-day program and your account holds four routines. At that point the choice is Hevy Pro, or a one-time $9.99 for Trunk+, which has no routine cap and works with any assistant.

What if you use Claude or Gemini?

Hevy has no integration for either one. There are four ways around that, and each has a catch.

• Hevy's share button. The Hevy app can send a finished workout to ChatGPT or Claude from the finish-workout screen. It shares one session at a time, not your history.
• Hevy's API with a community MCP server. Hevy's API documentation says the API is available to Hevy Pro users only (Hevy API docs, verified 2026-09-07). The servers that connect it to Claude are third-party projects you set up and maintain yourself.
• Export and upload. Hevy exports your workouts as a CSV file from its settings (verified 2026-09-07). You upload the file to the assistant. It is a snapshot, so you repeat it whenever you want fresh numbers.
• A tracker that is not tied to one assistant. This is the approach we took with Trunk.

The honest limits: Trunk is iPhone, iPad and Mac only, with no Android app and no Apple Watch app. It has one App Store rating where Hevy has about 96,000. And Hevy's integration costs nothing, where ours is the paid part of the app.

If ChatGPT is your assistant and your training fits in four routines, use Hevy's integration. It is free and it stays inside the chat. If you already have a long Hevy history, stay where you are. Trunk is the better fit if you work in Claude or Gemini, if your program needs more than four routines and you do not want a subscription, or if you want to switch assistants later without redoing the setup.
